The Many Faces of Syrah/Shiraz/Petite Sirah

For those of you that love full-bodied, juicy red wines, then this class is for you! The French have been making wine from the Syrah grape for over one thousand years, while that same grape under the moniker of Shiraz has been the backbone of the rich reds that Australia has been known for since the late 19th century. Wine and Spirits Director Nate Norfolk will explore the different styles of wine produced worldwide from this chameleon of a grape, and we'll also run through a few selections made from the similar, yet un-related Petite Sirah, to de-bunk any myths and rumors of its namesake! These wines are perfect for pairing with grilled foods, so it’s a great way to find some wines to enjoy for your late Summer cookouts!

The Diverse Styles of Bourbon & Rye

This evening will serve as a great intro course to both Bourbon and Rye whiskies, while at the same time continuing to educate the more seasoned whiskey veterans out there with a diverse selections. Length of aging, Proof, where a whisky is aged, and the mash bill (the grains used to make a whiskey) all have an influence on how Bourbon and Rye whiskies taste. Nate Norfolk will demonstrate how all these variables come together, and how any one bourbon can be so different from another. We will taste the following:
